9:59 AM: I woke to an odd dream this morning. The end of times was arriving post haste and it was being preceded by a raging, tropical thunder storm outside. The rain was torrential and the lights were flickering. Soon we were going to lose power and the internet was about to be a part of Mans recent history.

The world was closing fast on its appointment with a death. The “End” was coming real soon. In the dream I saw the need to tie up loose ends. I was writing furiously to finish a piece I was writing about Elliot, my mongrel pooch.

His, is a story of a sheltered dog with a spooked life. He’s constantly struggling with identity issues, human relationships and canine gender affiliation. (Because he’s seedless). I write a collection of his daily encounters with a brave new world. Exposing the dog to the real world is a task I’ve taken on with passion.

Imagine that; my last moments on spaceship Earth! Civilization as I knew it was about to disintegrate and I’m screwing around on the Internet. Till the end, I was banging away at this Sony keyboard.

I wasn’t under the pressure of a tight schedule though, and a terminating timetable didn’t concern me. Instead, I had peace of mind. I managed a particularly calm attitude. Pleasurable resignation of comfortable relief settled over me.

I was racing the clock till doomsday’s arrival but I had this one last thing to do. It was more like, tidying up ! It would appear; I was getting everything in order before the send off and concluding the dog’s story…as well as my own.

That’s dedication for you! For any readers who don’t know about the dog’s hubs, their new title is, “Elliot the Mongrel Dog Diaries.” Considering the dream, better read em while you can… Just Sayin!

Back to my “REM ” sleep and visions of the all mighty conclusion. I do my best dreaming and nightmare -ing just before waking. This wasn’t a nightmare though, but it’s the first dream I’ve ever had concerning the impending apocalypse of mankind.

These days , there’s been a lot of talk and ‘to do’, concerning the inevitable, unavoidable, and absolute nightmare referred to as, “End Times” Apparently, with that whole business of Mayan prophecy and 2112 being the actual date of our departure from this existence, comes a little worry. And well it should, because most folks are still pretty superstitious and fear the unseen and unknown.

The Mayans knew their mathematics well and adopted the concept of zero in their mathematical equations. Doesn’t sound like much but only two other world civilizations up to that point had devised the same concept. The Romans and Ancient Greeks didn’t have it.

The ancient Mayans were calculating the Earth’s movement through the cosmos while accurately tracking the moon and our solar systems planets. Visible planets in the night skies, and their paths of revolution around the sun were studied for millennia. They studied stars, ours in particular, and determined winter and summer solstices, nearly as accurate as any modern scientific calculation will allow.

Sophisticated machines and empirical science hasn’t topped their 365 day, calendar round. [It was only off by six hours] . Europeans were still counting on their fingers and toes at the time. The current Mayan calendar cycle began in 3,114 BC and will end on 21 December 2012. The winter solstice marks the end of this existence for mankind according to Mayan calculation.

Many people believe that the Mayans were unsurpassed in astrology based on their accurate predictions and future analysis of the universe. Along with the demise of their civilization, an indefinite quantity of their science and predictions were buried with their corpses by their oppressors, the Spanish conquistadors. Only a fraction of it is now being brought to light by present archeologists. Some of their calendars chart time extremely accurately over a span of more than 10 million years.

Even after studying and trying to understand these cosmic transitions, people are more confused than ever. The Mayans celestial evidence for an apocalypse is challenged by scientists against such a calamity based on empirical evidence. The truth lies on both the sides of “light and dark.” The only thing that can be said very clearly is that right now we people are living in a most important era.

The end of the world?

In the entire existence of mankind, there has never been a date so significant. Almost the entire world, secretly if not outspokenly, feel that the earth will come to an end by 2012. Astrologers and scientists show infinite proofs and related data to revel the truth about this date, but still it is in the dark. Histories of other ancient civilizations clearly indicate that the earth will thrive as we know it - only until, 2012.

The first ever to produce this statement of fact are the Mayans. The Mayan civilization is believed to be originated in the Yucatán Peninsula about 2600 BC and lasted until 1300 AD. They repeatedly state that a transition will happen on Dec 21 2012 , it can be either a peaceful evolution or a violent and dramatic change. This will depend on the current state of mankind.

Following in the footsteps of the Maya, there were other astrologers and scientists from various civilizations who professed their theory on the end of the world. Another important prophecy was that by Nostradamus, one of the greatest astrologers in his period who has also stated a detailed explanation about 2012 and its significance to End Times...

… And so says a supposed expert on the Mayan subject of permanence as a race.

After watching the most recent movie, and Hollywood blockbuster “2012” I can see why so many have fear of the unknown. It would appear the human race is going to be up for the ultimate trial, and major tribulation. The Mayans knew and understood the past well enough to know it’s happened before and the past is bound to repeat itself. Life is cyclical according to their beliefs. These are my sentiments also...

75 million years ago, T Rex and his crony’s boasted supremacy and what did that get them? Those beasts walked the planet a couple hundred million years and evolved into extraordinary animals with all the latest gear and gadgets. They were snuffed out like a cigarette tossed in a pail of water. "Homo Sapiens " have walked the planet for roughly 200,000 years and just may annihilate themselves if a natural apocalypse doesn’t get them first

After watching a scientific program about all the DNA connections of existing populations around the world, (on the “History Channel)” the ultimate question about where “Man ” ultimately sprang from was being investigated. My eyes were opened a bit wider after following these men of science for an hour. These scientists painstakingly took regional samples of DNA worldwide. They covered all the bases.

From Mongolia to Africa; across the entirety of Europe to the steppes of Russia –and from to the Arctic Circle to North and South America they took samples of ‘DNA’ from indigenous and mixed populations alike.

This team of esteemed scientists concluded that we; [the planet’s entire population ] are a hell of allot, more closely related to one another, than we would like to think or admit to. We all started out on the continent of Africa it appears, and through migration for one reason or another, spread north and out from there. But that’s not the news I was impressed with.

It appears that 26,000 years ago, a “Global Catastrophe” nearly wiped “Mankind ” from the face of the planet. A multitude of other great mammals also vanished roughly that same time in North and South America. Mastodons, massive, Saber Toothed Cats, and bears, and Giant Sloths, among others- saw their end!

The researchers concluded that only twenty three breeding human females were left to repopulate the entire, brave new world. They concluded to know this by accurate ‘DNA’ comparisons and contrasts. That’s pretty dammed amazing, considering it just might - or will - happen again. Whether it is the 2012 prediction date or not, we’ll just have to wait and see.

The modern interpretation of 17^th century “ Nostradamus” prophesies [Astrologer, Physician and “Seer”] don’t hold much promise either. He also points to the year 2012 in his, venerated as truths , quatrains, as a date of major change for the planets population. Millions worldwide are of firm belief that something is brewing at this precise point in time. We will see. We’ll soon find out just what the cook has to uncover on our dinner plates. Fact or fiction?
